PERSONAL FIRE
Ceramics course with Jarmila Mitríková
Date and time: 03/11/2025 / 17:00 - 19:00
Šopa Gallery, Hlavná 40, Košice
We invite you to the ceramics course that we have prepared for you at the turn of October and November, at the time when nature is preparing for winter rest and we remember those who have left. The workshop led by visual artist Jarmila Mitríková is inspired by the folk and magical rituals of this pre-winter period, which carries the need for light, warmth and inner silence.
During the workshop you will create your own candlestick, which will be both an amulet and a sculptural object. It is not just a functional object - each object will bear a personal story and symbolic protection of its author, which is renewed with each lit candle. Jarmila will guide you through the creation process from the first touch with clay to the final glazing, while we will also focus on the art therapy and ritual dimension of working with ceramic material.
Together with the lecturer, we will focus on basic modeling techniques and work with form. You will learn how to create an object with a candle cavity, how to work with surface and texture, and how to apply glazes. Everyone will take home a unique work created by their own hands, which can serve as a source of light in the dark winter months.
Due to the technological process, the workshop is divided into two sessions. The first meeting will focus on modeling clay objects, which will be fired in a ceramic kiln after drying. The second meeting will take place in the second half of the month (we will agree the exact date together according to the preferences of the group) and will be dedicated to glazing the fired objects. After the final firing, you will be able to pick up your works.
Duration: approximately 2-3 hours / first meeting; 1-2 hours / second session
Capacity: 8 people
Price for the workshop:
Adults: €45
Students and seniors 65+: €35
Children under 6 years: free
All materials (clay, glazes), both firings, instructor guidance and refreshments are included in the price.
TIP: Bring your own an apron or older clothes that may be made of clay. We also recommend a hair elastic.
