About event
THE GENIUS OF THE CENTURY
Jazz music is a young musical genre that originated at the beginning of the last century and has undergone rapid development to its current level. It is characterized by basic attributes expanded by new influences. Today we are talking about several styles of jazz music divided according to the expression of interpretation. This huge development took place on the basis of the discovery of new expressive elements and the technical perfection of leading personalities. Oscar Peterson is one of the pillars of the development of jazz and its dissemination to the broadest layers of the listening community. He was born in Canada, in Montreal on August 15, 1925, he showed his talent at an early age and in 1949 the jazz manager Norman Granz introduced him to New York. In the span of the sixties, he played thousands of concerts and recorded two hundred records with all the greats on the jazz scene. We also find a Czechoslovak trace, when Jiří Mráz played the double bass in his trio and they also recorded the great album Walking The Line together. He also played in Czechoslovakia, in 1974 at the Prague Jazz Festival. And these were the topics we talked about when, in infinite respect, I approached the genius and asked for his autograph. He was playing at the Matador jazz club on Broadway in San Francisco at the time... That was a fresh memory of his, so he was happy to share it with me. Oscar Emmanuel Peterson died on December 23, 2007 at the age of 82. This year we commemorate the centenary of the birth of the genius. The whole jazz or cultural world bows with respect before his personality, his work, his legacy. On Sunday, November 9, we will meet in this atmosphere at the Luč Club to reminisce. We will remember his work with compositions that he himself wrote or made famous. In addition, there will be two professional piano experts - Gabko Jonáš and Samuel Bánovec. Gabo Jonáš grew up under the influence of the development of jazz, and Samo Bánovec is a passionate admirer of Oscar Peterson and is influenced by him in his work and interpretation. Gabko's accompaniment consists of a harmonious rhythm team - Jozef Brisuda double bass and Janko Babič drums. Oscar Peterson was a sought-after pianist for collaboration with vocal performance, which will be proven by the precise selection that Andrea Panáková will bring. Bánovec himself will bring the traditional accompaniment in his home formation Erbetes Q – Ludvik Soukup sax, Jarko Machač bass guitar, Karol Repa drums. And Iveta Lišková will decorate the "Petersonian" mood with singing in the whole range of American standards, which will be confirmed by the powerful song Hymn of Freedom. 100 years of genius concert on November 9 at 6:00 p.m. Club Luč, Mierové námestie Trenčín.
