About event
Erik Rothenstein is a baritone saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher. He is dedicated to jazz and classical music. He leads his own group Erik Rothenstein band with which he recorded four albums and performed in Europe and South America. His work stems from the roots of the music of Central-Eastern Europe (Slavic and Balkan folklore, klezmer) in connection with the jazz tradition.
He founded the body Lento Ad Astra dedicated to chamber classical music and the world music group Babelel Beat Band. He was a co-founder of the Pressburger Klezmer band.
After a long time, he decided to look for a new "sound", other forms of compositions and band playing. In 2018, he therefore founded the ensemble Ansambel SO36, which is dedicated to contemporary music and the interpretation of compositions by contemporary Slovak authors. However, he also cooperates in various formations with domestic and foreign musicians and is a member of the CZ-SK Big Band of Matúš Jakabčić. He was a member of Gustav Brom's Orchestra. He collaborated with the Višegrad jazz big band and with classical orchestras (ŠKO Žilina, Melos Ethos Ensemble, Slovak Radio Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic). In 2019, he was awarded the Ladislav Martoník prize by the Music Fund for his original compositional and arranging contribution to the domestic jazz scene. He publishes articles and interviews in the magazine Hudobný život and on the web portal skjazz.sk. He also works as a teacher and lecturer. He is the author of the textbook Progressive School of Playing the Saxophone.
