About event
Holan's poetry in Advent Fortna. Stage reading at the JEDL theater.
VLADIMÍR HOLAN (1905–1980), one of the most important Czech poets and translators of the 20th century, was an extraordinary phenomenon in Czech poetry. He was an author who did not walk on the surface of reality, but tried to get to the core of human existence and life in general. In doing so, he did not create simple poetry, but deep meditative and spiritual lyricism.
LUCIE TRMÍKOVÁ will present a selection from his poetry and correspondence supplemented by poems from the collection of folk poetry Love and Death, which Holan compiled together with František Halas.
MONIKA KNOBLOCHOVÁ will accompany her with music. The compositions of the classics (Joseph Haydn, Erik Satie and others) will be heard, but also of the contemporary Czech composer Aleš Březina.
The staged reading will take place in the large hall of the Fortny Carmelite monastery, with a view over Prague. Before and after the show, you can stop by the Advent bonfire in the monastery garden.
