About event

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Center for Folk Art Production, the ÚUV Gallery in Košice at Mäsiarská 52 prepared a reinstallation of the exhibition of the works of the symbolic eighty masters of the ŽUV over the past thirteen years. The priority of the curatorial tandem is to highlight each individual. By means of information panels with photos, descriptions of awards and QR codes with a link to the ÚĽUV website with factual information about the given manufacturer, visitors will be drawn into unique master stories.

Discovering the world of traditional crafts through complete sets of author's objects sorted by material groups will be an experience for both adults and children. You will get a glimpse into the world of musical instruments, sticks, Bacov dishes and other wooden products, metal jewelry, blacksmithing, tinsmithing and tinsmithing, hats and leather products. Part of the exhibits is devoted to home culture, textile products - fabrics, lace, embroidery, wool, natural fabrics and glass. A separate exhibition is made up of ceramics. The visitor's eye will be delighted by small handicrafts such as Easter eggs, gingerbread houses, straw decorations, textile animals and dolls, wooden animals or glass underpaintings. The objects on display come from the private collections of the masters and from the collections of the Museum of Folk Art Production and the Považ Museum in Žilina.

The message that the curators of the exhibition Eva Ševčíková and Dominika Žažová address to the general public is clear: "We can boldly say that the masters and masters of folk art production are the successors not only of a traditional craft, but also of a way of life. Although not anymore in the form of material; rather, by their attitude to life, the qualities that have adorned our ancestors for centuries. Above all, it is independence, respect for the surrounding life, an inclination to locality and sustainability, and often also humility, which naturally flows from one's own creative satisfaction, from the penetration into the depth of things and their understanding."
