About event
The JOANES Prize encourages young architects to... Rethinking living in the city: How can communal living be made affordable, sustainable and social at the same time?
A total of 646 students from 63 universities and colleges in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg took on the challenge of activating previously unused space potential for urgently needed living space. 426 teams worked on their designs in the 2024/25 winter semester - 195 projects were submitted.
The jury was deeply impressed by the creativity, professionalism and courage of the participants and unanimously decided on the prize winners on September 12, 2025.
As part of the celebratory award ceremony at Aedes, the award-winning works will be honored and at the same time look to the future. The overarching goal of the JOANES Prize is the realization of the winning design by the bbg Berliner Baugenossenschaft in cooperation with the student team and with support from weberbrunner architekten.
The four award-winning projects as well as other selected submissions will be presented in an accompanying exhibition during the event.
We cordially invite you to celebrate the work of the student teams with us!
