About event

[See below for English]

Tuesday evening on July 21, 2026 will be dedicated to contemporary electroacoustic experimental music, under the sign of ambient, drone and sacred minimalism!

Event Jori Josiphson: Eia Mater! offers visitors and lovers of meditative, experimental music a unique opportunity to delve into an unusual combination of sounds of instrumental instruments - organ, accordion and piano. These acoustic instruments will be complemented by electronics, so the author achieves a symbiosis of electronic and acoustic sound... and thus finds a certain balance. Between electronics and the sound of acoustic instruments. Between the worldly and the spiritual. The result of this search will be a vast electro-acoustic sacred sound painting, depicting an abstract portrait of tenderness and intellect... as well as an image of the Divine Person of the Holy Spirit and his compassion. The author will perform the composition himself.

19:30 • opening of the space to the public
20:00 • concert Jori Josiphson: Eia Mater!

About the compositions

On the one hand, the composition Eia Mater! (Oh, Mother!) with its theme reminiscent (at first glance) of a mass composition. However, it does not have a classic liturgical structure. It is a seven-part meditation or prayer, in the form of a ronda. On the other hand, it must be admitted that Jori Josiphson conceives this work as feminist. The topic is precisely the woman, whose position in the church and in society is recognized many times. The author, composer and performer at the same time wants to pay tribute to women and mothers with his composition.

For Josiphson, important women who were recognized, underestimated, reviled or despised by society in the past are an inspiration. It was their strong story that caused a kind of anger in the author. The reason for this anger was historical injustice. To write the composition, Josiphson was mainly inspired by the stories of three women - the fate of Mary Magdalene, Joan of Arc and Hypatia of Alexandria. With the composition, he wants to highlight their intellect, perseverance and patience, as well as expressions of empathy, tenderness and compassion.

The evening concert will also be enriched by a short composition called TEBE (for organ and electronics), which Jori Josiphson wrote based on the template for composition 288 from the Unified Catholic Hymnal - I live with You, my Jesus.

About to the author

Jori Josiphson lives in Bratislava. This creator of new, experimental music works at the Slovak Radio as a music dramaturg for literary and dramatic work, and at the same time as a music editor at Radio Devín. His compositions are characterized by a minimalist and drone atmosphere. Their main idea is to dive into the depths of one's own knowledge... in order to perceive the spirituality and beauty of the world, put aside one's "I" and find humility. The originally purely acoustic music is enriched with electronics, while Josiphson devotes himself to the symbiosis of electronic and acoustic sound. His research is based on the search for a certain balance that electroacoustic music requires.
