Legenda Emöke
Drama / Romance, Czech Republic, director: Vojtěch Štursa, 1998, 64 min.
Love novel The Legend of Emöke by Josef Škvorecký became a cult work of the 60s generation thanks to its fragility and meditative style. However, it waited until the 1990s for the film adaptation, when director Vojtěch Štursa dared to adapt it. The casting of Viktor Preiss and Miroslav Donutil in the roles of rivals produced great performances, while blonde Slovak actress Ingrid Timková surprised as Emöke. Škvorecký was very satisfied with the adaptation.

Smyčka (Pętla)
Drama, Poland, 1957, director: Wojciech Jerzy Has, 96 min.
The film follows Kuba Kowalský (Gustaw Holoubek), who struggles with alcoholism. His girlfriend Krysia (Aleksandra Śląska) tries to help him and believes that a visit to the clinic together could rid him of his addiction. Kuba has to stay sober until Krysia comes home from work, but waiting at home is getting the better of him. Friendly phone calls, instead of supporting him, only irritate him. In the end, Kuba succumbs and leaves the apartment, which leads him on a depressing pilgrimage through gray, bleak streets, symbolizing his ruined life.
