About event
🌍 It's here. Annual, jubilee, commemorative, important, round, tenth edition of the Essential Weekend, this time with the subtitle: Birth of the Planet of the Apes. And where else but in our ZOO!
On Saturday, March 28, we will be planting in the vicinity of the newly emerging enclosure for the Dželada baboons. And all this guarantees that there will be a good mood! We are still finishing the enclosure and it is you, with your hands, calluses and shovels, who will contribute to making its surroundings green and welcoming for visitors, as well as for future residents from the feline family. And when you come to greet the new geladas, you will say to yourself that I planted this cypress santolina here!
Together, we will plant up to 760 m2 of new flower beds, specifically:
🌳 26 trees, of which 8 pieces directly in the newly emerging paddy field (maples, hornbeams, sycamores, hollies, magnolias)
🌿 110 pieces of hedges (holland, buddleia, dogwood, viburnum)
🌾 210 pieces of perennials and ornamentals grasses (yucca, agave, ornamental grasses, kniphofia, santolina)
📍 Location: grounds behind the Monkey Pavilion in ZOO Bratislava
📅 Date: Saturday, March 28, 2026
9:00 registration starts in front of the main entrance
9:10 - 10:00 coffee and tea in the gazebo
10:00 - 14:00 we plant eight
10:30 - 14:00 start of the children's zone and activities at the gazebo - children will learn in a playful way to recognize buds, most often trees, get to know the trunk of a tree, plant seedlings or just paint coloring books
12:00 - 13:00 lunch and a little surprise
13:00 - 14:00 afternoon planting
Together we will create the atmosphere of the Ethiopian highlands - and maybe there will also be a jubilee surprise.
