About the Festival:
The Festival of Anicka Jurkovičová is an important nationwide show of non -professional theater ensembles, which takes place every year in Nové Mesto nad Váhom. The event is named after Anne Hurban - Jurkovičová, one of the first Slovak amateur actresses, who was born on April 6, 1824 in this city. Its contribution to the development of the Slovak theater and national awareness is invaluable. The festival took place for the first time in 1994 on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the birth of Anicka Jurkovičová, when a memorial plaque was unveiled on her birthplace on Comenius Street. Since then, the event has become a regular part of the cultural life of the city and its surroundings. The aim of the festival is to present productions that reflect the position and role of a woman in society and thus continue to link Anicka Jurkovičová. In addition to theater performances, the festival also includes the awarding of the KLIE awards to important Slovak actresses for their contribution to theater art. This award was first awarded in 1999 and among his laureates were such personalities as Emília Vášáryová, Zdena Studenková and Kveta Stražanová. In 2024 the festival commemorated its 25th anniversary. During this period he became an important platform for the presentation of the amateur theater in Slovakia and contributed to the preservation and development of theater tradition in the region. The town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom continues to celebrate the heritage of Anicka Jurkovičová and supports cultural development through this unique event in 2025. We created our workmanship with subtlety and respect for the original text, and we emphasize acting work and emotional truth. Simple scenography, which emphasizes the purity of space, allows viewers to fully focus on acting performances. Music seems to be the voice of fate. In this production, classical theater aesthetics meets a deep testimony that appeals to human values and questions. So the mother is not only a story about the tragedy of one family, but also a metaphor about the constant efforts of a person to reconcile with himself, with her loved ones and the world. The theater for a leap gives this work a tribute to the Slovak drama and wants to offer the audience an experience that can resonate long after the lights go out. Katarína Kmecová
