About event
"So what is it like, young Slovak poetry? The essential characteristic is probably an open social commitment," writes editor Michal Tallo in his foreword to the multilingual anthology "Young poetry from Slovakia. Mladá poézia zo Slovenska", which is currently being published by danube books Verlag (Ulm) as the tenth volume of the poetry series edition textfluss. The three poets who are guests at the House of Poetry this evening bear witness to this assessment. In 2025 or 2024, her volumes of poetry were nominated for the renowned Slovakian poetry prize Zlatá vlna (“Golden Wave”). Also invited is Michal Tallo, editor of the above-mentioned poetry anthology.
Alena Brindová (born 1992 in Košice) writes in her second volume of poetry Prekrocenie frontovej línie (FACE 2024, “Crossing the front line”) a type of love poetry that thinks in terms of internal and external trench warfare, for example when, after an argument in the restaurant, it says: “to peace talks only representatives of one party come / the others leave a good catch.”
Zuzana Husárová (born 1983 in Malacky) is an author of experimental transmedia literature. Together with the programmer Ľubomír Panák, she developed the neural network Liza Gennart, which was trained to write contemporary poetry with over 2000 works of Slovak literature and published a debut volume entitled Výsledky vzniku (Drewo a srd 2020, “Results of Creation”).
In Juliana Sokolovás (born 1981 in Košice) The second volume of poetry Domáce práce (Literárna bašta 2023, “Housework”), which will be published in 2026 in a German translation by Andrea Reynolds by Secession Verlag, is about the social visibility of (primarily female) care work and the constant rearrangement of things, which Sokolová describes as a battle of mythological and cosmic proportions.
The event will be Slovak-German interpreted.
Organizer: House for Poetry in collaboration with the Slovak Literature Center and the Slovak Institute in Berlin.
Moderation: Asmus Trautsch, poet and philosopher.
Entry: 8 / 5 euros.
