About event

We invite you to open the exhibition associated with the launch of the new publication Juraj Bartoš, which captures the Petržalka housing estate from 1977 to 2004. Chmeličková

Book Juraj Bartoš: Petržalka presents a selection of photographs from almost 30 years of documenting one Bratislava district. Bartoš brings us a very wide range of views not only on the inhabitants of the housing estate, but also focuses on its curious corners, reflects environmental themes, shows the imperfection of the system of panel structures and terraces, or examines the interpretations of the first private shops. From his photographs, it is to see the criticism of the environment in which man (and the author himself) has appeared, on the other hand, he feels huge empathy and interest in people from his photographs. All this creates a very interesting and varied color mosaic of life in Petržalka of this period. Petržalka really such a concrete jungle or "ghetto", for which she was often referred to.

Bartoš's visual testimony from Petržalka is the work of invaluable value. Thanks to him, there will be no “black hole” in the Picture Chronicle, but a colorful mosaic from the first three decades of the housing estate. From 1961 to 1965 he studied photography at the Secondary Artistic School in Bratislava. After finishing the school he worked briefly for the Orava Gallery in Dolny Kubin, from 1967 to 1972 he was a photo reporter in the weekly Beseda, from 1972-1974 photographer of CSTK-Pressfoto Agency in Bratislava. From 1974 to 2008 he photographed for the Urology Clinic of the University Hospital in Bratislava-Kramáre. He lives in Bratislava. He posted photographs in fashion magazines, girl, Slovak, Dorka, Mladá's work, Popular, Stage, Elle, Fototip, Digi-Revue, British Journal of Photography, Photography.
