Justice on Trial: Law vs. Morality
Event by: Elysian Discoveries: Thoughtful Talks & Cultural Events
Location: Café am Neuen See, Lichtensteinallee 2, Berlin - Mitte
About event
# **Legal ≠ Moral: When Justice Breaks the Law**
We often assume that what’s legal must also be fair — but real life shows otherwise.
A hungry person stealing food can end up in jail, while powerful companies can harm communities and still be praised for playing “by the rules.”
**Law tells us what we *can* do. Morality asks what we *should* do.**
And the two don’t always match.
This session explores the grey zone between law and morality:
* Where do they overlap?
* Where do they clash?
* And what happens when the gap between them grows too wide?
**Format**
We’ll start with open sharing of personal views, then look at short prepared texts and evidence (articles, surveys, philosophy).
In the second half, we’ll challenge our ideas in light of this material — aiming to see where opinions and evidence meet, and where they differ.
