About event
Erin SILANGIL (soprano), Hartmut SCHULZ (Baritone), Joseph TURBESSI (piano)
Both have been an integral part of our culture for hundreds of years. Historically, both music and coffee houses have played a central role in social coexistence and have been an inspiration and starting point for social development. Both the production and consumption of coffee and music are only possible where people come together. The coffee supply chain is long and complex, requiring dozens of players around the world to work together to produce each delicious cup. The same principle applies to music: it is created in a process of continuous, joint effort.
These connections are not new findings; it was already known in the Baroque period that coffee had the power to overthrow existing conventions. Johan Sebastian's secular “Coffee Cantata” BWV 211 from 1734 shows this in a comedic way as a generational conflict between a traditional father and a coffee-addicted daughter. And Nicolas Bernier's soprano canteen "Le Caffé", created around 1715 and often performed at the court of Versailles, shows the power of this drink, which even challenges the omnipotence of the wine god Bacchus.
