Kanrec Sakul uses corruptions of Esperanto for the titles of his works or projects as a contextual device, which in his intricate creation brings another layer of subtle mystification and confusion. Velura rando or Velvet Edge is Sakula's first solo exhibition in Bratislava. The series of the latest paintings and objects follows on from the other large-scale exhibition project Senfna flugo (Endless flight), which took place in the summer of 2024 in Kasárny in Košice. After a long time, a rediscovered movement in his work got into the picture, and the "nature morte" became a "tableau vivant". However, if we talk about a "living picture", life itself is, as is the case with Kanrec, decidedly different from the one that happens to us here and now.
Through the latest paintings, Sakul dives into his routine the concept of "false spaces", which appear deceptive, but upon closer examination reveal strange truths in their illusory depths. These environments are often decorated with bold textures and colors, suggesting a refined representation of something high. Underneath this, we could say velvety gloss, however, there are troubling undercurrents and subversion.
