About event

🪧 Banners, human chains, street marches, performances or relay protests. The last two years in Slovakia were marked by intense civil mobilization. Protest has become not only a tool for dissent, but also a way to create communities, name concerns, and publicly defend the values we hold dear. Even the very history of PRIDE is linked to protest - its first year was inspired by the so-called the Stonewall Riots in 1969, when the LGBTI+ community resisted a police raid on the New York bar Stonewall Inn. Are PRIDE marches today still protests against oppression and injustice? What forms can protest take in the 21st century? When can he change the public debate and when does he remain just a voice calling to the wind? And what can we learn from the protest experiences of recent years?

🗣 Veronika Němcová from the Open Culture platform! will present various forms of protest for the defense of culture - from large gatherings to smaller performative events. He will talk about which strategies have proven to be effective, which have hit their limits, and what forms of civil resistance the platform envisions for the future. 🗣 Ella Patrášová will bring the perspective of student activism and the young generation, which is looking for its own ways to enter the public space. 🗣 Jana Bošelová from the Not in our city platform will open the topic of civil protests and local organizing. Together they will talk about different experiences, motivations and approaches to activism and what it means to protest today.

🚩 The event will be moderated by Michaela H. Pašteková.
