Karel Plíhal v Štúdiu L+S

He is not only a songwriter, but also a poet with a refined sense of humor and irony, as well as a musician with a feeling for an unforgettable melody and well-chosen harmony. Czech musician Karel Plíhal will visit Slovakia in November and will perform on Friday, November 22 at 19:00 at L+S Studio in Bratislava.

Karel Plíhal has become synonymous with Czech folk music songwriting a long time ago. He has been on the scene for four decades. He graduated from the Middle Industrial School of Engineering in Olomouc, then worked as a designer, a smoker in the Olomouc theater and finally
became a singer (although he has no musical education). He has been playing the guitar since he was fifteen. At first, he played in Olomouc's underground country-swing bands Hučka, Falešní žorí and Plíharmonyje. He had his first solo performance in 1983. Between 1985 and 1993 he collaborated with Emil Pospíšil and in 1995-1999 he was accompanied by Petr Freund. He became a four-time prize-winner of the competitive music festival Porto.

However, even health complications did not take away his desire to continue creating and giving concerts. That is why he is accompanied at concerts by guitarist Petr Fiala, with whom he gets along not only humanly, but especially musically. Plíhal himself enriched his songs by playing another stringed instrument - the mandola. It is tuned a fifth lower and complements the guitar perfectly.
