About event

The year 2024 is slowly coming to an end, and with it the ever-present anniversary of 100 years of Czech music celebrating 200 years since the birth of Bedřich Smetana, but into which the 170-year anniversary since the birth of Leoš Janáček also crept in with less fanfare. None of the speakers were particularly involved in the big grant and residency calls for the celebrations, but we still decided to take advantage of the event. Although we are burying Czech music Dadaistically, this is precisely the opportunity to reminisce full of joy and absurdity, through which we encourage playful explorations of unorthodox approaches to the (dis)interpretation of old classics or their complete rejection as a point from which we must push ourselves away today.

In addition to the sets, there will also be a feast and a truly fun toast inspired by the wisdom of the greatest connoisseur of social events, Ladislav Špaček. The state of reminiscing and thinking about how to cope with what awaits us next! and vocal-instrumental music following the lines of contemporary music or sound poetry. During the evening, he will work on the poetry of his ancient revivalist ancestor Alois Vojtěch Šembera.

- - Čejka & Ponížilová - - will play a freely improvised aria that combines motifs from the opera The Adventures of the Foxes by Leoš Janáček with dense rock and roll. Electronics, guitar and vocals break the seriousness of popular classics in a fun way.

- - Curated selection - - is a brass duo oscillating somewhere between music and non-music. Crazy teacher Martin Debřička and inept self-taught Kryštof Pátra set out to discover America with screaming saxophones in their mouths and a significant amount of general skepticism. A year ago, they scratched out the texts of Artaud, Beckett and Dubuffet, and added similarly inspiring visual and sound material to start looking for ways to realize a sound-movement tone-noise show. They haven't made much progress with it since then. Maybe they actually put everything behind them and with a "clean" head of Dadaists, they threw themselves into conquering the cruel North Pole. There will be beer, chairs, saxophones, electronics, noise and a Vltava cruise.
