About event
EXHIBITION OPENING: 22.11. 18:00
The slime garden was a real place on the corner of the street where I grew up, by the stairs that connected the upper and lower parts of the town of Stříbro. Through the fence I used to go there as a child to look at something that struck me as absolute transcendent beauty. Twisted waxy shapes playing with colors grew out of the grass there next to the pansies. A garden from another planet, I thought. I wanted to live in it. In the shapes I saw animals, faces, things, like in the clouds. The slime garden was constantly changing, sometimes soothing, sometimes disturbing. I perceived it as a garden of paradise. As I grew up, I forgot about the slime garden. I went to look once and she wasn't there.
Most likely it was the garden of a worker from a plastics factory, who took home rubbish and stuck it in his garden instead of gnomes.
From time to time throughout my life I remembered the colorful blobs in the grass, but eventually I began to ask myself if the slime garden was even real. That memory made me wonder again and again, the desire to go back in time and see her again.
I discovered that I was searching for her in my work, at first unconsciously, later on purpose. Desire satisfied.

Karolina Koblen *1988, Stříbro
She studied FPE and UUD in Pilsen
Karolina Koblen is a contemporary Czech artist. In his work, he primarily captures and reconstructs hazy and almost forgotten impressions of childhood memories, sentimental, banal, and traumatic. She is interested in the psychology of a young person who is trying to find his way in a world where he doesn't quite fit in.
She formally explores the aesthetics that surrounded her childhood in the 1990s and around the turn of the millennium.
Carolina's inspiration stems from her personal experiences as a neurodivergent small-town teenager. In addition, it draws on a rich mosaic of stories collected from friends reflecting a generation's collective narrative and diverse coming-of-age experiences.
