Following her Tanznacht residency at TANZFABRIK BERLIN BÜHNE x GRÜNTALER 9, Kasia Wolińska will give an insight into her art anthropological research.
How are spiritual experiences patterned in the body, and what conditions give rise to transcendental states? How are women’s lives – in past and present – marked by ecstatic revelation and psychopathology?
At the interface between choreography and religion(s) lies the project space that Kasia Wolińska has designed with objects, videos and other materials that she has collected and produced in the course of her ongoing art anthropological research. The installative work bears the title “Papieżyca” (High Priestess) and is to be understood as a polyphonic figure that embodies various stories, crises and transgressions. “Papieżyca” enables an encounter with the artist’s female ancestors and self-chosen sisters. It is a path to self-knowledge and healing — through and despite art making.
The installation part of “Papieżyca” will be open for visitors between 11th and 13th of September. It will be enlivened by a 35-minute performative intervention on the 12th of September at 7.30 pm.
