“Kayan” is the Arabic word for “existence”. As the “Kayan Project”, Berlin musicians from Israel-Palestine, Syria, and Poland exist as an extraordinary ensemble that the singer Eden Cami has gathered around them.
The young formation of Arabic ud, double bass and percussion combines classical and modern music as well as poetry from the Levant with elements of jazz, which Eden Cami interweaves with her Arabic and Hebrew singing.
The lyricist Jan Wagner writes: “The virtuoso plucked Ud and the gliding and clicking and artful stumbling of the double bass meet somewhere in the border area between folk and jazz, and both can also be heard in the wonderful singing of the songwriter Eden Cami on.
