About event

Now that Donald Trump is again president of the United States, the country is going through a period of radical changes that follow each other at lightning speed. The American Supreme Court plays a crucial and unique role in this: as the last instance of constitutional testing it determines whether laws and decisions are in line with the Constitution, and has the power to adjust the course of the country. The Court of Appeal therefore not only influences the law, but also on politics. What does this form of constitutional testing mean? How solid is laws and regulations in this way? In his new book (in) constitutional, Kenneth Manusama explains how crucial the role that the court plays is and what risks are associated with it. An indispensable book for anyone who wants to be able to follow political current affairs in the United States.

Kenneth Manusama has been trained as an international law lawyer at the VU University Amsterdam, where he also obtained his PhD. Since many years he has been mainly concerned with America, and in particular with the American constitutional law. Manusama has been regularly in the US since 1992. He stayed there from 2004 to 2006 and also during the first Trump years: from the summer of 2017 to the end of May 2020 he lived with his family in New York. Then he landed on IJburg. He has his own podcast, 'American situations', and is regularly a guest at TV programs such as Nieuwsuur to comment on American politics. Last year his book 'Democracy of the Wild West' was published and he provided a flex stage about the American elections of November 2024.
