In the wake of a violent political coup that has rocked the Joseon Dynasty, King Yi Hong-wi is dethroned and sent into exile.
Meanwhile, in the remote mountain village of Gwangchungol in Yeongwol, Mayor Eom Heung-do tries to provide sustenance for its people. Hoping to revive the village, he offers Cheongnyeongpo as a place of exile, believing it will bring great luck. However, the man he welcomes is not a powerful noble, but the young deposed king Yi Hong-wi.
Eom Heung-do, who is tasked with overseeing the exile, must monitor Yi Hong-wi's every move. As the days go by, however, she becomes more and more worried about the boy who has lost the will to live.
