Kin'Gongolo Kiniata in Tolhuistuin

Kin’gongolo Kiniata is rooted in the bustling streets of Kinshasa and rewrites the boundaries of Congolese music, with respect for the deep cultural traditions. Their debut album 'Kiniata' is an explosive mix of urban rhythms, electronic sounds and handmade percussion of recycled material. The literal translation of Kin’gongolo Kiniata is "crushing sound" and reflects their powerful, raw sound. What started at neighborhood parties and street corners grew into international performances around the world. Their music tells stories in the Lingala about struggle, hope and resilience, with influences from Afropop, Congolese punk and experimental electronics. 'Kiniata' is a tribute to the soul of Kinshasa: chaotic, creative and uncompromising. By raising themes such as homelessness, war and survival, the group links artistic innovation to social justice. Kin’gongolo Kiniata shows that a revolutionary and hopeful sound can arise from urban chaos.
