About event
📷 Screening of a visually riveting and poetic document composed exclusively of photographs of Libuše Jarcovjáková. A self -portrait of the artist on the way to Svoboda, who is also a meditation of memory, resistance and incomprehensibility of himself.
➡️ The extensive photographic archive of Libuše Jarcovjáková, born in communist Czechoslovakia, accompanies the audience through three cities, which formed its early work and the inner world. He is complemented by sincere diary entries that draw viewers into the hidden world of fearless young artists seeking truth and freedom. Despite the state repression, the lens turns to itself, forgotten corners of Prague and those who live on the outskirts of society: migrants, Queer community and underground. After a tragic event, he runs to Berlin, where he encounters difficulties in finding work and personal relationships. After returning to Tokyo, he finds commercial success, but not personal fulfillment. When the Iron Curtain begins to shake, Libuše feels irresistible calls back - to the city that shaped it, and something that has never been able to capture the lens.
