between Revolutions/între revolution
(d Vlad Petri, Romania/Qatar/Iran/Croatia, 2023, 69 min.) Both seek to complete the study of medicine and develop a deep friendship and mutual admiration between them.
When the revolution against chess breaks out in 1979, the full hope of political change returns to Iran, but disappointments cannot wait long. He will never return to Romania. Over the next decades, they have been changing letters of protests, riots in both countries, the oppression of women, and how much it has an impact on them. Even Romania will not avoid the revolution. Their correspondence depicts two women separated by revolutions that seek to satisfy social stereotypes and struggle with the deep mutual feelings that cross the boundaries of ordinary friendship.
Director Vlad Petri draws on great, fantastically processed archive shots from Iran and Romania to tell the story of two women in a way that wipes the boundaries between the document and fiction. Isn't such a bond in such difficult times too perfect?
