From around 9.30 p.m. DJ Juliana (mostly neo/non/contemporary) will be playing for you!

AddicTango is a poetic documentary (2023, approx. 73 min) that describes the experience of dancing tango. Using three different personalities, it explores how the combination of intense joy, longing and frustration creates an obsession with dance.

AddicTango emerged from the research of a cultural anthropologist, uncovers the emotional levels of tango and conveys its depth to the audience. By depicting tango as an addiction, the film reveals the hidden elements of tango, its unconscious motives and its emotional impact on those who indulge in it.

The story unfolds through the journeys of three passionate tango dancers: Monika, Sing-Tjoe and Dorine. Everyone seeks fulfillment in different ways, revealing the complex interplay of highs and lows that shapes the overall experience of dance. Monika, driven by ambition, strives to become one of the best dancers in the tango scene. But when her progress is hindered, Monika's relationship with tango changes fundamentally. Sing-Tjoe chases the euphoric climaxes of dance throughout Europe. But his pursuit of fleeting highs also brings inevitable lows. For Dorine, tango is a refuge, a place where negative emotions can be transformed into fulfilling dances. She thrives on connection, but when rejections disrupt the flow, the connection to the scene easily dissolves.

The stories of the three dancers offer an intimate look into a vibrant subculture where passion becomes obsession and dance becomes a way of life.

Language: The film is in English, some footage is in Dutch. The entire film is also subtitled in English.

Anita Kucserova is a documentary filmmaker from Bratislava, Slovakia, currently living in the Netherlands, where she studied cultural anthropology. She discovered her passion for documentary filmmaking in 2014 when she made her first film.

Anita views filmmaking as a form of anthropological research and transforms her analyzes into vivid, visual narratives. Her work explores human realities and lived experiences, paying particular attention to the personal, psychological and social forces that shape them.

Her second film, AddicTango, which she both directed and edited, reflects a subject close to her heart. Tango is a world that she inhabits not only as a researcher but also as a passionate dancer. In addition to her film projects, Anita is currently working on other art projects and gathering inspiration for her next documentary.
