About event
Hello dear yoga friends! We cordially invite you to Kirtan - joint chanting of mantras. This ancient practice originating from the Indian tradition leads us to relaxation, inner peace and gentle connection with others. It doesn't matter whether you are just starting out with yoga or have been practicing for a long time - kirtan is open to everyone.
What is kirtan?
Kirtan is a form of communal chanting in which we turn to God - the source of light and peace within us.
The lead singer chants a mantra or phrase and the group repeats it. This creates a rhythmic, pulsating stream of sound that naturally calms the mind and opens the heart.
Singing as part of bhakti yoga
Kirtan grows out of the tradition of bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion.
It is not about body positions, but mainly about gentleness, trust and surrender. Singing becomes prayer. The voice becomes a bridge between us and that which is beyond our self.
Mantras and bhajans
Mantras are sacred syllables and words that are repeated.
The word mantra comes from Sanskrit: man = mind, tra = instrument.
Mantra is therefore a tool to calm the mind.
Bhajans are longer songs with melody and lyrics.
They stir up emotions and bring them into practice. gratitude, tenderness and joy.
Why are mantras chanted?
The repetition of mantras creates a vibration that gently affects the nervous system – the mind slows down, the body relaxes.
Chanting reduces tension, promotes concentration and induces a feeling of lightness.
In Kirtan, this effect is multiplied by the shared vibration and energy of the group.
It is an experience where performance or technique is not a question. We turn to God with our voice - whether we perceive it as light, consciousness, love or silence behind thoughts.
It is not about singing, but about intention and an open heart.
