About event

Klang Systematiek: Sound in motion

An evening in which sound is transformed, layered and created right in front of the listener – in a space that becomes part of the music.

The Klang Systematiek ensemble brings to the Libeň Synagogue a program dedicated to the music of Pauline Oliveros and Karlheinz Stockhausen – composers who fundamentally changed the way we perceive sound, time and the act itself today listening.

Performing:
Gareth Davis – bass clarinet
Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) – electronics
Martin Leporis – percussion
Ivo Nilsson – trombone

The music here moves between structure and open interaction – it arises in real time through listening, reacting and working with space. The electronic layer naturally expands the acoustic sound of the ensemble and creates a variable soundscape.

Program:
Pauline Oliveros: Primordial/Lift – a monumental drone composition that develops in slow waves of long tones and resonances. It is based on the concept of Deep Listening and is inspired by the idea of the earth's resonant frequencies changing and its poles shifting. The music here does not act as a fixed structure, but as a continuous stream of sound that gradually transforms the perception of time and space.

Karlheinz Stockhausen: Expo – one of the works of Stockhausen's Plus-Minus cycle, based on the constant transformation of musical material. Radio signals, dialogue fragments and sound impulses interact with the instruments, are captured, deformed and recomposed. The result is a dynamic and unpredictable sound structure on the border between organization and spontaneity.

🎧 A concert for those who really want to listen to music - not just hear it.
✨ The intimate space of the synagogue as part of the experience.

Organized in cooperation with the Alternativa festival.

The concert is realized with the financial support of the capital city of Prague and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

Klang Systematiek: Sound in Motion

An evening where sound unfolds, transforms, and emerges in real time – shaped by space as much as by the performers themselves.

Klang Systematiek presents a program dedicated to Pauline Oliveros and Karlheinz Stockhausen, two composers who fundamentally reshaped how we perceive sound, time, and listening.

Performers:
Gareth Davis – bass clarinet
Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) – electronics
Martin Leporis – percussion
Ivo Nilsson – trombone

The music moves between structure and open interaction, shaped in real time through listening and response. The electronic layer extends the acoustic sound of the ensemble, creating a fluid and evolving sonic environment.

Programme:
Pauline Oliveros: "Primordial/Lift" – a monumental drone work unfolding through slow waves of sustained tones and resonance. Rooted in Oliveros' Deep Listening practice, the piece draws on the idea of shifting planetary resonance and polar transformation, evolving as a continuous sonic flow that gradually alters the listener's perception of time and space.

Karlheinz Stockhausen: "Expo" – part of Stockhausen's Plus-Minus cycle, based on continuous transformation of musical material. Radio signals, fragments of speech, and sonic impulses interact with the instruments, captured, altered, and reconfigured in real time. The result is a dynamic and unpredictable structure balancing control and spontaneity.
