About event

On the occasion of the awarding of the Nobel Prize for Literature to László Krasznahorkai, his novella "Minimal Work for a Palace" in the translation by Heike Flemming will be read in full length at the CHB, framed with the photographs by Ornan Rotem from the publication The Manhattan Project (Sylph Editions, 2017).

Reading it: Antonia Siems, Emil Kollmann and Elias Nuriel Kohl (University of Applied Sciences Acting Ernst Busch)
Director: Zoltán Moll

Krasznahorkai's story is the delusional monologue of a librarian from New York named Hermann Mellvill, who also happens to live on 26th Street, just like the author of "Moby Dick", whose relative he is constantly mistaken for. He follows in the footsteps of the famous writer and, during his wanderings, talks about the Metropolis, about art and about his ideal of the perfect library, which is closed forever, in which there are no borrowers and no readers. Does he enter into the other's delusion or does his own enclose him more and more tightly?

In the virtuoso German translation by Heike Flemming, the text retains the breathlessness of the original and has a tension that is addictive - says Ilma Rakusa.

We would like to thank Ornan Rotem from Sylph Editions for generously providing the images.
