About event
We would like to invite you to the last meeting of the SNM Astronomers' Club in this calendar year, which will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. in the Discovery Center (3rd floor) of the museum.
The invitation to the lecture was accepted by Mgr. . Matej Zigo, PhD. Astros Solutions p. r. o., Bratislava.
Lecture title: Space debris and repeated entries into the atmosphere
Abstract: Space traffic is constantly increasing due to the increasing number of satellites and space debris. An uncontrolled environment can lead to destabilization of the near-Earth region. Although the atmosphere serves as a natural mechanism for disposing of these bodies, large satellites and rocket stages can survive passage through the Earth's atmosphere and threaten humans on the surface. In our lecture, we will present the current state of man-made objects in Earth's orbit, about the creation of waste and the disappearance of bodies in the Earth's atmosphere. The Slovakian ESA mission ROSIE, the first mission of its kind, will be presented in detail, where the deliberate entry of the Cluster satellite into the Earth's atmosphere was monitored by aircraft in order to understand the physical processes of these phenomena and increase the safety of people on Earth.
Entrance to the event is free
