Klub astronómov SNM - Spektrálny výskum meteorov: od laboratória po austrálsku púšť

We invite you to the next in a series of autumn lectures within the SNM Astronomers' Club. Traditionally, we will meet in the Discovery Room (3rd floor) of the SNM Natural History Museum at Vajanského nábreží 2 in Bratislava.

Lecture: Mgr. Veronika Pazderová, Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Charles University, Bratislava
Abstract: What are meteoroids made of? Can their composition be determined without them hitting Earth? And why is it important to examine their composition? These are all topics that are among the most discussed in contemporary meteor astronomy. As one of the few teams in the world, researchers from the AMOS group working at FMFI UK in Bratislava are also dedicated to them, whose research is largely based on the analysis of meteorites and their emission spectra obtained through unique laboratory experiments. But how is it related? How to look for meteorites without laboriously searching the often vast impact areas? And is it possible to predict what we will find in the field purely from the emission spectrum? In this lecture, we will try to find answers to these questions together, and we will also talk about how such research can lead someone to the enchanting wilderness of Western Australia, on a journey full of science, fun and unforgettable experiences.

Come and see. Entry to the event is free.

The event will take place in cooperation with the SNM Natural History Museum. The event is realized as part of the cooperation project of the SAS at the SAV and ASÚ SAV, also with the contribution and support of the Astronomical Institute of the SAV, v. v. i.
