About event
Writing under pressure, influence and at the edge of strength. Literature as obsession, escape and self-destruction. What happens when creation turns into an absolute claim on a person's life? "No human being is designed to bear absolutely in a limited state for a long time. Laying down one's life for this, in full awareness, is the ultimate sacrifice: death, torment, madness..." The third festival evening will belong to poets who understood writing as an extreme experience — as an initiation path, an obsession and a struggle with one's own consciousness. Together we will get closer to the authors standing "at the gates of the absolute", whose work was created on the edge of exhaustion, ecstasy and madness.
The guide for the evening will be the poet and editor Robert Janda, whose own work and editorial work have long focused on the theme of experimental and spiritually sharpened poetry. In his anthology The Ultimate Poet at the Absolute Gates, he collected texts by authors such as Arthur Rimbaud, William Blake, Paul Celan, Antonin Artaud or Vladimír Holan.
Robert Janda (*1966, Pilsen) is a poet and occasional editor. His work is based on the poetics of experimental poetry, but at the same time it leads to a deeper investigation of meanings, language and the limit states of human experience. He is the author of the books Omamné odéry, Za plážený jazyk, Bohorovné horrory and Filo pendere. He has published in the magazines Tvar, Host, Souvislosti, Psí víno and others.
