Do we believe that love is blind, that we will meet our love on an island in the glare of spotlights and chilled drinks, that we will survive in the social jungle, that we will swap wives, that we will give ourselves ultimatums in relationships? What do reality shows say about us, what would they like to say about us? Journalist and presenter Hana Řičicová will talk about the desire to watch, to be seen, and the phenomenon of watching with Irena Reifová, columnist, pedagogue, sociologist, who deals, among other things, with TV serials and class analysis of Reality TV shows.
Hana Řičicová is a cultural journalist and freelance presenter, co-produces the Sirény podcast. Previously, she worked at Czech Radio Radio Wave and hosted the weekly Respekt Podcast. She likes to listen to music and podcasts, but most of all she likes to read contemporary Czech prose or watch TV series. As a doctoral student at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism of the FSV UK, she is devoted to the exploitation and precariousness of Czech journalism. She is a co-founder of the Women in the Media association and works in the initiative You won't pay the rent with enthusiasm, which advocates for the visibility of the working conditions of cultural journalists and their association.
Irena Reifová works at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, where she studies media and cultural studies. He has been dealing with television, popular culture, memory and post-socialist transformations of the media for a long time. The main topics of her professional work include television series and class analysis of Reality TV shows. In his research, he often moves between media and sociological analysis, cultural theory and the everyday experience of the audience. She is interested in how the media create social hierarchies, emotions, tastes and ideas about "normality". In addition to research, he is dedicated to teaching, guiding students and academic cooperation at home and abroad.
