About event

When you can't stop anymore. When you need to go further — step by step, through the streets of the city, the outskirts, the countryside and your own life. The festival evening will connect the theme of movement, restlessness and obsession with walking with literature and poetic perception of the world. Guests will be Vít Janota, Josef Straka and Jakub Řehák — authors whose work requires walking.

Vít Janota is a Czech poet, novelist, translator and programmer. He studied physics at the MFF UK, where he briefly worked as an assistant professor. He belongs to the prominent personalities of contemporary poetry; in 2021–2022 he was the Poet of the City of Prague. He published a number of collections (e.g. Prague Destroyed by Rain, The Rise and Fall of the Shadow Empire), and he received a nomination for Magnesia Litera for the book Weekend in a kind of Switzerland. His work, mixed with urban and existential themes, stands out for its extraordinary sensitivity to the details of everyday life.

Josef Straka is a poet and novelist, author of the books Hotel Bristol, Church in the Mist, Small Exiles and Foreign Countries. His texts have been translated into a number of languages and he has performed at international literary festivals in Europe and beyond. In his work, he has long connected the motifs of walking, restlessness, the city and existential experience.

Jakub Řehák is a poet and essayist, author of the collections Light between the boards, Trap for Brigita, Days full of falling asleep and Concrete Kestrel. In his poetry, he creates intense urban and dreamscapes in which restlessness, movement, solitude and sensitive observation of the world intertwine. His texts often depict walking as a way of perceiving space and the inner state of a person.
