Kolnoa - The Israeli Film Festival, bearing in its name the Hebrew term for cinema or cinematography (קינואמה), represents the film production of a remarkable and varied country full of contradictions. It brings films that are hardly seen in the regular Czech film distribution - both new films and older cult films from the field of fiction and documentary production.
Brno's Echoes of Kolnoa will take place on October 20 in the lecture center of Villa Stiassni and will offer unusual experiences through a varied selection of several films depicting different aspects of Israeli reality. The screening will be accompanied by readings from Ephraim Kishon's book Incognito in Prague, and especially the linguistic dating site Mazel. If you've always wanted to say "shalom" instead of "hello" and at the same time you're still looking for a soulmate, come and try our unique Hebrew lessons!
We present all films in their original version with Czech and English subtitles.
15:00 Dating Mazel. A fun language workshop in which you will get to know not only the secrets of the Hebrew language
17:00 Paradise. Ali, a young Palestinian who has been living in Berlin for years, comes to visit Israel. After an unpleasant welcome at the airport, Ali decides to go on a trip to Sinai. After telling one small lie along the way, Ali finds herself in an unexpected identity crisis on the beautiful beaches of Sinai. (32 min., Hebrew with CZ and EN subtitles. 17:45 French. The short film, set in the pink-painted world of manicurist Sari, was shot at the beginning of 2024 in a reality full of sirens and rockets. One of the goals of the filming was to give all the creators and actresses (RonaLi Šimon – Fauda, Hadas Jaron – Shtisel) a drop of hope in the last months full of pain and sadness. Beneath the pleasing aesthetics of gel nails, the film deals with relationships and trust, lies and cheating, pain, resentment and separation. (16 min., Hebrew with CZ and EN subtitles.
