About event
We invite you to a commented show of the exhibition of Veronika Rónai's time spiral on Thursday, October 2 at 17.00. Artistic - and transforms it into new visual structures. The image remains the main medium, but this time it leads a dialogue with the past that does not let - with images of female identity, corporeality and everyday reality, which she captured at a time when it was not obvious to speak openly. It is a selection of older and new works that combine distinctive color and determining painting. Painting is not only a medium, but also an act of continuity, memory and self -expression. The seemingly glamor aesthetics is subjected to a critical distance and irony. On the walls of the gallery is a large -format collage - the author's composition, in which fragments of paintings, drawings and photostylism are connected to one visual whole with the characteristic layering of time. memory. It creates an exceptional space in which personal mythologies are connected with broader cultural and social meanings.
Veronika Rónaiová was born in Kremnica. From 1966 to 70 she studied at the SSUP in Bratislava 1966 - 1970 in the Studio of Arranging (Prof. Rudolf Fila). She started studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava at the free graphics department (prof. Vincent Hložník). 1977 on the recommendation of prof. Ján Želibský receives a full scholarship. Until 1989 she worked as an artist in a freelance. She participated in collective exhibitions at home and abroad and organized several authorial projects. Since 1989 she has been teaching at the J. Vydru SSUP and the SVŠT at the Department of Architecture. In 2001 she habilitated at VŠUP in Prague at the associate professor in the field of painting. 2003 - 2020 led the Studio of Painting at the Department of Animation of the Fine Arts of the PF Trnava University. She exhibited at home and abroad, 1999 at the Venetian Biennale, 2007 in Bari at the exhibition of Slovak Fine Arts, 2011 in the Ludwig of the Museum in Budapest at the International Exhibition of Hyperrealism. It is represented in collections at home and abroad - SNG, GMB, PGA and GJK. Veronika Rónaiová works with a concept as an ideal in art through the medium of figural painting and drawings, faithful to the hyperalistic method of painting based on photorealism. Since the beginning of the zero years of the 21st century, her painting "... increasingly integrates time and space (social, personal, artistic) and also a new post -conceptual style of painting" (Alena Vrbanová). It uses a multiple transcript, layering of painting in the shift of time and circumstances, and also increases its meaning intertextuality. Her paintings respond to social reality, to the world of art, its history, his institutional predestination, but also to her own art against the background of everyday social reality. For its work since the 1990s, the expansion of the limits of hanging painting in terms of method of creation of image units is a typical strategy, where individual paintings have their story and act as parts of the "puzzle" composed of various artistic and non -artistic connections. After studying contemporary art at Sheffield Hallam University and long -term work in England and New York, she returned to Slovakia. In his work he focuses on conceptual installations and interactive objects. It is fascinated by the trivial situations of everyday life set in unexpected contexts, and as its medium often uses public space. She is the founder and director of the space for contemporary culture platform 1-12 (from 2011) and the interdisciplinary space of the pair (from 2021). With the project, the platform has successfully revitalized the neglected underpass in Topoľčany, where the form of site-specific installations and international residences connects art with social themes, science or ecology. It leads successful international projects and collaborations. She has won several awards (White Kice, Orange Foundation Award) for her work and her projects were presented at the Biennial of Architecture in Venice (2012) or Prague Quadriennale (2025). 9. - 17. 10. 2025
