About event

🏛️ The Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik (1872-1957) is one of the most important figures of European architecture of the 20th century. 🇦🇹 As a pupil of Otto Wagner in Vienna, he quickly created his own, unmistakable style. 🇨🇿 Between 1920 and 1934, he rebuilt Prague Castle at the personal request of President Tomáš Garrigua Masaryk, and his interventions are still considered a symbol of the democracy of the first Czechoslovak Republic.

🇸🇮 He designed many buildings in Ljubljana - churches, a library, bridges and the Žale cemetery - thanks to which Plečnik's works are now included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. 🇸🇰 Although he was a visionary, he always returned to tradition and folk culture, which is why in 1920 he and his students undertook a study trip through the Slovak regions. ✂️ The exhibition was officially opened on 1 October 2025 by the presidents of Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria and the Czech Republic together with the chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.
