Come to a guided tour of the exhibition Igor Kalný: Nothing but an artist with curator Daniela Čarna.
🎨 Igor Kalný (1957 – 1987) belongs to creators whose work is closely connected with their life. His drawings, paintings and actions express creative restlessness, a desire for authenticity and quiet defiance.
🔴 He entered the unofficial scene at the end of the 70s. He is devoted to music, poetry, painting and drawing. He covers the paper with lines, later creates stamp drawings and illustrates the samizdat Animal Farm. In the 1980s, he outlined objects and his own body, until a series of self-portraits was created that mapped his presence in an unfree space.
👉 The exhibition presents Kalného as part of a generation that in totality created "islands of positive deviance" - spaces of courage and inner resistance.
His ten-year work left a significant mark and is represented in many Slovak collections.

🎨 Igor Kalný (1957–1987) is an artist whose work is closely intertwined with his life story. His drawings, paintings, and actions express creative restlessness, a search for authenticity, and quiet defiance.
🔴 He entered the unofficial art scene in the late 1970s. His practice spans music, poetry, painting, and drawing. He covered paper with repeated lines, later created stamp drawings, and illustrated a samizdat edition of Animal Farm. In the 1980s, he began tracing objects and his own body, eventually creating a series of self-portraits that recorded his presence in a space marked by lack of freedom.
