About event
The stone colony, also known as the "Kamenka", is a unique testimony to the original working -class development, which was created since the beginning of the 20th century on the outskirts of today's old Brno. This picturesque district on the slopes of the red hill, clamped between the Svratka River and the former sandstone quarry, was originally an emergency housing for workers' families and the poorest inhabitants of the city. The first modest houses began to be created in 1925, often by self -help and from cheap, easily accessible materials. Although the settlement was struggling with problems such as the missing sewer and limited access to the water, it has retained its distinctive character and a unique atmosphere.
