Komentovaná procházka Pražské laguny

Go with Barbora Chmelová from the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to discover the unique nature around the confluence of the Vltava and Berounka rivers. We will show that even at first glance ordinary places or places significantly affected by humans can hide extremely valuable ecosystems.

The first stop will be the natural monument Komořanská and Modřanské tůň ("Modřanské lagoons"), one of the youngest specially protected areas in Prague. We will talk about how a unique floodplain ecosystem gradually emerged here on the site of the former flood control reservoirs from the 19th century. We will continue along the Vltava river to the Krňák natural monument, where we will see floodplain forests, wetlands, gravel alluvium and a part of the original bed of the Berounka.

We will explore the topics of the history of the Vltava and Berounka, the restoration of river ecosystems and the influence of man on the river landscape. We will also stop at the Zbraslav wastewater treatment plant as an example of anthropogenic interventions in the environment and think about how the city's functioning is successfully combined with nature conservation.

The aim of the walk is to show that even in close proximity to busy roads and technical infrastructure, valuable nature can arise and persist and offer participants a new view of the river as a living and constantly changing ecosystem.

Total length the route is 5 km, the length can be adjusted (shortened) according to the needs of the group. The estimated length of the walk is approx. 2-2.5 hours. Bring outdoor shoes (we will go off-road on footpaths around the water), a drink and a small snack, possibly insect repellent. The walk takes place in any weather.
