About event
G99 and Brno Artists in Residence invite you to a guided tour of the Hypnotikon exhibition, which will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 5 pm. The exhibition will be presented by the author Denisa Ponomarevová.
about the exhibition
emoji can be seen as a digital sequel to a millennium visual tradition that dates back to ancient art to today's social networks. Culturally encoded characters have always been used to express meanings and emotions. In a digital environment, however, they gain new roles and functions - affect our experience, relationships and ways of communication. Social networks are dominated by speed, quantity, visual attractiveness and addictiveness, often at the expense of depth and finer nuances. In addition, the interface design itself determines what emotions can be expressed, to what extent, and which remain suppressed. Through the deliberately slow media of drawing - whether on paper or in the form of textile objects - it examines how digital platform glyphs (DE) form a relationship to themselves and others. Its method is also very personal and analytical: it allows it to penetrate deeper towards the processes associated with the flattening of emotional experience and restore the complexity where it is lost in the network of yellow emoticons.
