About event
We invite you to a guided tour of the exhibition Valerian Karoušek, Jiří Novák: Nitro land, wings, distances. Curator Iva Mladičová will guide the exhibition and introduce the artists.
The exhibition presents the works of Valerian Karousek (1929–1970) and Jiří Novák (1922–2010), important figures of Czech sculpture in the 1960s. It recalls their participation in the formation of new figurative and constructivist tendencies as well as their participation in key projects such as EXPO 58 or the Liberec Socha shows. Both authors looked for inspiration in nature and modern technologies and realized a number of works in public space. Karoušek combined stone with metal, and his work was influenced by his relationship with the mountains; his life was tragically ended by an expedition to Peru in 1970. Novák worked primarily with metal structures, incorporated movement into sculptures and also devoted himself to restoration.
The joint exhibition emphasizes the timelessness of their works and their sensitive relationship to natural elements.
