About event
November 17 is the day of the struggle for freedom and democracy, as well as the international day of students. Come on the eve of this important national holiday to remember its beginnings and echoes in the history of Vysočany.
In addition to many attractions and local stories, we will also look at the moments when Vysočany became part of the so-called "great history". We begin with the origin of this holiday and the era of Nazi occupation. We will mention the fates of freedom fighters from Vysočany and the importance of local factories in the German war effort. We will walk through the places where the revolutionary units of the people's militias marched in 1948.
We will talk about how it was with the famous invitation letter in 1968 and how witnesses remember that time. We will follow in the footsteps of thousands of workers, where huge factory halls grew and from where Czechoslovak products and machines flowed to the whole world.
Finally, we will return to the events of the Velvet Revolution and the transformation of Vysočany from an industrial center to today's Prague district, pulsating with life.
Zoltán Miklós and Bc. Jakub Švihel.
WHERE: meeting in front of the Vysočany station building
WHEN: 16.11. at 10 a.m.
Participation is free and there is no need to register in advance.
The expected duration of the walk is two hours.
The walk is organized by Prague 9 district and Darwin Natural History Society.
