at the Film and Television Faculty (FAMU) Look forward to the Lažanský Palace, which is one of the underestimated but extremely rare jewels of the 19th century. It is one of the last noble city palaces that can be found in Prague; It combines the function of a representative aristocratic mansion with an apartment building with commercial premises. With their corner towers reminiscent of French castles, they create a proud and cosmopolitan counterpart to its younger neighbor - the National Theater. The palace is now the seat of FAMU, but we also find a restaurant of Parnas and the Slavia café, which co -film the elegant spirit of the Prague cultural space during the 20th century. However, the Lažanský Palace was home to the Muses at the time of his earliest existence, because it was here that Bedřich Smetana lived and formed in years when he composed his best works, including the comic opera sold the bride.
In the complex of buildings of theater faculty (DAMU) you will see an incredible mixture of styles and objects from different times of our history. Medieval cellars, Baroque palace, rebuilt stables, public representative halls from the National Revival, but also commercial premises, all meet with postmodern interventions, and above all the extremely vivid present of the very demanding operation of the top art school.
DAMU is located between two historically very important streets, which literally passed our history: towards the chain street there is an old Kokořovský palace of Kokořov, whose neighbor is the House of the Lords of Kunštát. It is followed by the wing of the DAMU built for the St. Wenceslas credit union and a relatively modern wing towards Karlovy Street. In the middle of the whole complex in the place of the former court, there is the Disk Theater, whose postmodern forms resemble a submarine. Its seat - Liechtenstein Palace - occupies the entire western side of the main Lesser Town Square. He is already connected with perhaps the most important events of our history - the Polyhorská era, respectively. with the person of the so -called "bloody governor" of Charles of Liechtenstein, who decided to execute 27 rebellious masters, who were guilty of betrayal on the ruler of the Habsburg family. However, important events have been marked throughout its existence, which has been spanning for centuries until the Middle Ages.
