About event

In the run-up to Christmas, we traditionally invite you to a festive concert on the occasion of the presentation of the Antonín Dvořák Award. Australian theater and opera director Barrie Kosky became its laureate this year. The personality, who celebrates success on the world's leading opera and theater stages, will take part in the concert in person, and for many visitors in an unexpected role.
In the beautiful spaces of the Spanish Hall, scenes from famous Czech operas that Kosky staged on world stages will be heard first - Adventures of Little Fox, Rusalka, whose authors, Janáček and Dvořák, are Kosky's great admirers, transformed into extremely successful productions.
In the second part of the evening, songs by Kurt Weill or compositions by Leonard Bernstein will be heard. They also represent a part of Kosky's work, which made him famous worldwide and made him one of the most sought-after theater directors ever.
Soloists Kateřina Kněžíková, Jarmila Vantuchová and Peter Berger will perform with the Prague Philharmonia orchestra under the direction of conductor Marc Albrecht, who, like the evening's other soloist, Katharine Mehrling, regularly collaborates with Kosky.
Kosky was the intendant and chief director of the Comic Opera in Berlin from 2012-2022, his productions are known to audiences from the Royal Opera House in London to the Wiener Staatsoper, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Paris Opera, the Sydney Opera House and opera houses in the United States.
We look forward to seeing you at Prague Castle.

It is our pleasure to invite you to our third annual gala advent concert and Antonín Dvořák Prize award ceremony. This year the prize goes to Australian theater and opera director Barrie Kosky. This notable figure, celebrated on prominent opera and theater stages all over the world, will personally take part in the concert, in a role many visitors may not expect.
The amazing Spanish Hall will first resonate with scenes from popular Czech operas which Kosky has staged at international opera houses – The Cunning Little Vixen and Rusalka. Kosky transformed his great admiration for Janáček and Dvořák, the composers of these works, into enormously successful productions.
In the second half of the concert, we will hear some of the works that brought Kosky global acclaim and made him one of the world's most sought-after theater directors: songs by Kurt Weill and compositions by Leonard Bernstein.
Soloists Kateřina Kněžíková, Jarmila Vantuchová and Peter Berger will be accompanied by the Prague Philharmonia led by conductor Marc Albrecht. Albrecht, as well as Katharine Mehrling, another soloist of the evening, have a long history of collaborating with Kosky.
