About event
Trio Romanovská Tichý Hrubý will perform strengthened by shakuha player and saxophonist Seizan Kenji Ósaku.
doors 19.30 | voluntary recommended entrance fee 200 CZK
The trio plays in the composition of Anna Romanovská (violin and koto), Petr Tichý (double bass) and Michal Hrubý (clarinets,
saxophone and flutes). He is mainly devoted to free improvisation. The musicians themselves and the musical instruments they use for improvisation have very different musical backgrounds. Anna Romanovská has a classical music
education and she is certainly strongly influenced by contemporary music, in whose territory she mainly moves. The Japanese
thirteen-string zither called koto, which Anna plays, brings an oriental touch to the overall sound. Petr
Tichý, whose musical foundations were laid by studying jazz double bass at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and at the
jazz department of Prague's HAMU, with his multi-genre approach to music also admits his roots in
folk, folklore and folk. Michal Hrubý and his punk-folk music base, extended by unusual
musical knowledge across centuries and musical styles, congenially complement the whole with the necessary element of the
unexpected. The trio performs concerts and records with many guests, for example, violist Garth Knox, a former
member of the Arditti Quartet and Ensemble Intercontemporain, with sopranos Hana Blažíková and Bára
Kabátková or the legend of the Czech underground Vratislav Brabenec, as well as other musicians, for example
Matoš Hejl, Annabelle Plum, Zdenek Závodny, etc. In the fall of 2020, they joined forces with drummer
Klaus Kugel, whom he met at the second year of the Dobršská brána festival in 2018. Since then
he has been working with him regularly. All three musicians are members of the informal association of musicians around
Peter Nikla.
Seizan Kenji Ósako is the master of the Tozan school, his teachers were Taizan Kawamura, Hozan Nomura and Kozan Yamazaki. Anna Romanovská and Michal Hrubý once played with him in the group Empty mountains are full of wind and rain.
