Dušan Vlk and Štefan Štec will perform at the Concert for Martina and Ján in Prešov's Stromoradí
In May of this year, Martina Kušnírová and Ján Kuciak would celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary. It is precisely on this occasion that the Pohoda festival organizes a Concert for Martina and Ján every year. Also this year, the Prešov music club Stromoradie, which was already at the first year, joined Pohoda, the entire program will take place directly in Prešov. The memorial event is dedicated to the memory of Martina Kušnírová and Ján Kuciak and will take place on Sunday, May 3 from 18:00 in the Stromoradie club in Prešov, and entry to the event is free.
At the Concert for Martina and Ján, Dušan Vlk, a prominent figure of the contemporary Czechoslovak underground, will perform. Under the pseudonym Prince of Prešov, Dušan openly refers to his origins, and his music moves between punk, emo rap and lo-fi aesthetics.
The second performer will be Štefan Štec, a singer and performer of Ruthenian and East Slovak folk music. In his work, he combines traditional songs with a modern musical approach and is one of the most prominent personalities of the contemporary interpretation of Ruthenian folklore. "I want to express my support for the parents of Ján and Martina. As a parent, I am aware of the difficult times they experienced and are still experiencing today," says Štefan Štec, who will perform accompanied by Dominik Korytko on piano.
We organize a concert for Martina and Ján every year as a memory and as a gathering of people who care about the values of freedom, truth and justice. The event is taking place symbolically in Prešov - the city where Martina Kušnírová grew up.
"After a year, we will meet again in Stromoradi to commemorate the day that should have been one of the happiest in the lives of Martina Kušnírová and Ján Kuciak. We would like to once again provide a space where we can honor them with respect, peace, but also with hope and togetherness. We believe that with such a meeting, we can keep their legacy alive and unite people around the values that matter," said the Stromoradie music club team.
The event will also include a discussion on topics related to the legacy of Martina Kušnírová and Ján Kuciak.
