About event
WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
There are places that we pass by every day, but we overlook their historical story. Patronka is one of them. If you hear the voice of Emília Vášáryová today in the Bratislava public transport system, it is a memento of the tragic story that began to be written in this place exactly 84 years ago.
27. in March 1942, the first 703 Jewish women were deported from Patronka. They believed they were on their way to work, but in reality they embarked on a journey from which most never returned. Alfréd Wetzler was also deported to the camp, and two years later, on April 7, 1944, together with Rudolf Vrbo, he succeeded in an almost impossible escape from Auschwitz. Their report on the Holocaust shocked the world and saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
Come with us to look for connections where personal courage met cruel history. As part of the Contexts series, we invite you to a discussion that will connect the chilling past of deportations and the Holocaust with the incredible story of Vrb and Wetzler.
📅 When: April 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
