International Chamber Music Festival Convergence, founded by cellist Jozef Lupták, has been one of the unmissable events on the Slovak cultural scene for over two decades. Convergences bring original dramaturgies, excellent performances by Slovak and foreign artists, an informal friendly atmosphere and the belief that music and culture have meaning in society. That is also why the Convergences in Žilina will start with a combination of words and music.
The present can be seen as a period of constant questioning. "I don't trust anyone or anything anymore." This phrase becomes the refrain of many conversations. Doubt, which was once an important tool of reason, today often turns into a disintegrating principle leading to nihilism. The destruction of truth turns into a means of power, and social networks create space for alternative "realities". Language has the power to create, but also to destroy. God again becomes an effective weapon of power in the mouths of modern dictators.
What kind of piety should be that can face manipulations and not betray the gospel? What needs to be done in order for society to regain its internal cohesion and the ability to defend itself against the forces of disintegration? What does it mean to truly appreciate life in all its forms, from interpersonal relationships to nature, which gives us space to exist?
Czech priest and biologist Marek Orko Vácha, writer, artist and preacher Daniel Pastirčák and president Zuzana Čaputová will seek answers to these questions. The discussion will be complemented by thoughtful musical dramaturgy interpreted by Pjoni, cellist Jozef Lupták, accordionist Boris Lenk and pianist Kamil Mihalov.
"Freedom should no longer have boundaries where it interferes with the rights and freedoms of others, but should be infinite and boundless. At the same time, history teaches us that freedom is not a value-neutral concept. If it is not based on values, it can it will become a destructive force."
– Zuzana Čaputová, March 13, 2025 at the event What's going on here?
"We have reached the age of barbarians, when on the one hand there are top scientific workplaces that will create a vaccine against the coronavirus or a machine for Mars in a few months, and on the other hand there is a waning hunger for knowledge. It has disappeared, it does not exist."
- Marek Orko Vácha in an interview for Denník N
"First the concept of truth was questioned by philosophers. It is said to be only a tool of power. Truth is what It will prevail. Now we are flooded with alternative facts. Without the imperative of truth, we become manipulative and manipulated. Let's return to the imperative of love." - Daniel Pastirčák, March 13, 2025. on the contrary. The power of each of us is extremely important, but our cohesion, connection and connection are also about that. Where words can no longer open the door to meaning and spiritual space, music comes in, which helps and creates an opportunity for deeper reflection and understanding. We believe that it is in times of uncertainty that music and beauty bring deep meaning Lupták
